What is Rye Flour (Stoneground)?
Rye is a cereal grain that looks like wheat but is longer and more slender and varies in colour from yellowish-brown to greyish green. It is generally available in its whole or cracked grain form, or as flour or flakes that look similar to old-fashioned oats.
Because it is difficult to separate the germ and bran from the endosperm of rye, rye flour usually retains numerous nutrients, in contrast to refined wheat flour.
Why Should I Get 100% Rye Flour (Stoneground)?
Rye is considered a superior grain to wheat or barley in terms of weight loss efforts, As the type of fibre in rye is unique - it is extremely binding with water molecules, meaning that it makes you feel full very quickly, and leaves you feeling that way for quite a while.
Nutritionally speaking you can expect a similar profile to wheat and other cereal grains, how Rye is particularly high in phosphorus, magnesium, zinc and iron, the fact that our Rye is wholegrain seals the deal in ensuring you're getting the most out of it as it's considerably more nutritious than any refined grain flours out there.
Rye flour contains enough gluten to make a yeasted loaf on its own, and tends to produce dense, dark, richly flavoured bread; The flour's intensely fruity flavour is delicious incorporated into fruited cakes and sweet quick breads, such as scones. Mix your Rye Flour with wheat flour for a lighter, fluffier texture, with the added richness of Rye!
