What Is Organic Quinoa Flour?

Quinoa flour is a flour produced from quinoa, a grain-like groats native to the Andes of South America. Quinoa is a somewhat unique grain, in that it has a very high protein content which made it a critical part of the Andean diet for centuries.

Widespread exposure to the grain has led the rest of the world to come up with a number of quinoa-derived products, including cereals and flours. This flour can be made from milled or unmilled groats with unmilled groats producing a more coarse, nutritious flour, while milled groats are used to make a much smoother flour.

Quinoa grain is actually Misnomer. Despite names and even appearances it is not a grain but rather a seed, as such it shares more similarities with Buckwheat, than it does with Wheat itself.

Why Should I Get Organic Quinoa Flour?

The flour is typically a creamy yellow to ivory colour. Quinoa is not a true grain and so does not produce gluten as grains do, this means the flour can be substituted for gluten-containing flours at the drop of a hat.

The remarkably high protein content of quinoa grains holds true in quinoa flour as does the high dietary fibre content. The protein content averages around 17% and means baking with Quinoa flour is different to baking with other more conventional flowers...many bakers actually recommend mixing quinoa with other flours, rather than using it alone.

Plain quinoa flour tends to create denser, more compact and heavier baked goods, so use accordingly, or mixed with other flours until the desired consistency is achieved.

Soy vs SoyaSoy vs SoyaBy Admin Wholefood Earth - 18/03/2022

Here at Wholefood Earth, we believe that no question is a silly question. For anyone wanting to know if there is any difference between soy and soya then we have the answer you seek! The short but sweet answer is NO – Soy and Soya are exactly the same thing. Both terms mainly refer to the bean (from which all soya products originate) which can also be called a soybean or soya bean. However, the only real difference is in the spelling. It tends to be referred to more as soy in the US, while here in Europe it is more widely known as soya. No wonder it can get confusing! But we’re happy to set the record straight 😊 So now you have your answer, how about finding out Why Soya is a Great Meat Substitute?
