For stir-fries, curries, bowls and sandwiches. Firm tofu crisps best when pressed dry and tossed in a little starch before frying.

Tofu FAQs

How do I get tofu crispy? Press firm tofu to remove excess water, cut it into cubes or slices, toss in a little cornflour, then fry or bake until golden. Pressing and the starch coating are what give you crisp edges rather than soft tofu.

Do I need to press tofu? For firm tofu, yes, if you want it to crisp and soak up marinade. Wrap it in a clean cloth with a weight on top for 20–30 minutes. Ready-flavoured and softer tofus need less or no pressing.

Is tofu a good source of protein? Yes, it's a complete plant protein, meaning it provides all the essential amino acids, which is why it's a staple in vegan and vegetarian cooking.

How should I store it? Keep unopened tofu in the fridge until its date. Once opened, store it covered in fresh water in the fridge, change the water daily, and use within a few days.
