How to use chia
Chia pudding: 3 tablespoons to 250ml liquid, ten minutes. Chia egg for vegan baking: 1 tablespoon seeds, 3 tablespoons water. Or stir into jams as a natural thickener, sprinkle dry over yoghurt, and keep to around 15g (a heaped tablespoon) a day. Store cool, dark and airtight.

Chia Seeds FAQs
Do I need to soak chia seeds? Not always. They soak up liquid and turn gel-like, which is what makes chia pudding, but you can also sprinkle them dry over yoghurt, porridge or salads. If you're adding them to a drink, give it a stir after a few minutes so they don't clump.
How many chia seeds should I eat a day? Around a heaped tablespoon (about 15g) is a common daily amount. They're high in fibre, so drink plenty of water and build up gradually rather than having a lot at once.
Whole or ground chia? Either works. Unlike flaxseed, whole chia is digested well, so you don't have to grind it. Ground chia just blends more smoothly into batters and smoothies.
Are chia seeds gluten-free and vegan? Yes, chia is naturally gluten-free and plant-based. The chia egg (1 tablespoon seeds to 3 tablespoons water) is a popular vegan swap for eggs in baking.
How should I store them? Keep them in an airtight container somewhere cool, dark and dry. Whole chia keeps for a long time that way; chia oil should be refrigerated and used cold.
