Oils FAQs
Which oil is best for high-heat cooking? Choose a heat-stable oil like virgin coconut or avocado oil for roasting, frying and sautéing. Delicate omega-rich oils like flaxseed and hemp are best kept for finishing, not cooking.
What does cold-pressed mean? It means the oil is pressed out mechanically without heat or chemical solvents, so the colour, aroma, antioxidants and nutrients survive. Refined oils are processed at high heat, which strips much of that out.
Why shouldn't I heat flaxseed or hemp oil? Their omega-3 fats are fragile and break down with heat, losing both flavour and benefit. Use them cold, drizzled over food or blended into smoothies and dressings.
How should I store oils? Keep them in a cool, dark cupboard with the lid sealed. Delicate nut and seed oils last longest in the fridge once opened; coconut oil is very stable and keeps at room temperature.
